Monitoring Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)
Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis are the two most common IBD chronic conditions, affecting 7 million people worldwide. These life-long chronic conditions are characterized by repetitive episodes of inflammation of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract and entail significant morbidity and complications. 67% of IBD patients cycle between periods of relapse and remission.
Effective treatment and proactive monitoring play crucial roles in achieving prolonged remission and alleviating symptoms, thereby improving long-term outcomes & reducing risk of disease progression, and enhancing the overall quality of life.
Conventional monitoring modalities (such as colonoscopy) are often too invasive, inconvenient & expensive.
Non-invasive biomarkers of inflammation are considered a more convenient and cost-effective monitoring modality. However, patient compliance is relatively low due to inconvenience and logistics related to the currently available testing options.
